Selectrolux Tuning Guide
This year, we recieved our new electron energy loss spectrometer from TFS on the Andromeda STEM. This is, at the moment, a rather uncommon piece of hardware, so I don’t expect too many people to use this manual. (Note that if you ask Thermo, they will call this thing the SelectrisX. I call it the Selectrolux, for reasons that largely do not make sense to anyone else.) Nevertheless, the explanation of the optics and aberrations of the spectrometer in the introduction may be of some general interest.
I’ve made the manual as a PDF, which you can download here. Like the probe corrector manual, the document is typeset in typst using the Tufte memo template, which I find fits the style of these documents quite well. (An unfortunate growing pain of the typst ecosystem is that many nice templates and packages end up as casualties of breaking changes in the compiler, and so in order to build this document with the latest version of typst I had to modify the Tufte template a bit. Luckily, typst code makes a hell of a lot more sense than TeX so such modifications do not require growing a full beard.)
